Seoul: The presidential Office of National Security on Tuesday condemned North Korea's latest ballistic missile launch as a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions and urged Pyongyang to immediately cease provocations. The office convened an emergency security meeting with military officials shortly after North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Office of National Security released a statement labeling North Korea's ballistic missile launch as a provocative act that contravenes U.N. Security Council resolutions. The statement called on Pyongyang to "immediately cease" such actions.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the missile launches were detected from an area north of Pyongyang at around 3:50 p.m., with the missiles traveling approximately 350 kilometers. Both South Korean and U.S. authorities are currently analyzing the specific details of the launch.

The presidential office confirmed that it had informed President Lee Jae Myung of the North's missile launch and South Korea's planned response measures. This latest launch coincides with expectations that Pyongyang will hold its ruling party's first congress in five years early next month, where North Korea is anticipated to outline significant policy directions in defense, diplomacy, and the economy.

The previous instance of North Korea firing ballistic missiles toward the East Sea occurred on January 4, as President Lee was preparing to leave for summit talks in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping. North Korea later announced that the launch involved a test of hypersonic missiles, overseen by leader Kim Jong-un.
