Seoul: The unification ministry in South Korea has announced plans to reinstate an office exclusively dedicated to inter-Korean dialogue, as part of President Lee Jae Myung's administration efforts to resume communication with North Korea and foster peace. This move comes amidst a broader organizational revamp aimed at enhancing the ministry's role in managing dialogue, exchanges, and cooperation with North Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Office of Inter-Korean Dialogue, previously downgraded and renamed under the former Yoon Suk Yeol government, will regain its status under the new plan. The reinstatement is intended to facilitate the reopening of suspended communication lines with North Korea and establish the groundwork for regular talks between the two nations.

The revamp plan also includes the establishment of new bureaus focused on resuming economic cooperation projects and normalizing the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a joint inter-Korean factory zone in North Korea's border city of Kaesong. Additionally, the ministry aims to gather public opinions on policies concerning Pyongyang.

The unification ministry has outlined plans to increase its personnel, along with those of its affiliated organizations, from the current 533 to 600. This expansion is part of the broader strategy to enhance the ministry's capacity to manage inter-Korean relations effectively.
