Montreal: South Korea has been reelected as a council member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for another three-year term, marking its ninth consecutive election since 2001. The foreign ministry shared the news on Wednesday, highlighting the country's ongoing influence in the field of international civil aviation.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the voting took place during the ICAO's 42nd general assembly in Montreal, Canada. South Korea secured 158 votes from 183 participating countries, showcasing strong international support. The ICAO council comprises 36 members, with notable countries such as the United States, Britain, France, and Singapore also holding seats.

ICAO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, plays a crucial role in coordinating international air navigation principles and techniques. It also promotes the planning and development of international air transport to ensure its safe and orderly growth.

The foreign ministry stated that the reelection of South Korea reaffirmed the broad support from the international community for the nation's contributions to aviation safety, security, and service. This achievement underscores South Korea's status as a leading nation in the aviation sector.
