South korea: South Korea has secured a contract valued at approximately 850 billion won (US$587 million) to supply two frigates to the Philippine Navy, as announced by the state arms procurement agency.

According to Yonhap News Agency, under this agreement, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., a prominent shipbuilder in South Korea, will construct two 3,200-ton frigates and deliver them to the Philippine Navy by the year 2029. This development follows a previous contract in 2016 under which two Jose Rizal-class guided-missile frigates were delivered in 2020 and 2021, becoming integral components of the Philippine naval forces.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) highlighted the significance of the new deal, attributing it to the government's proactive "sales diplomacy" and the competitive advantages of South Korean defense companies. These advantages include robust maintenance, repair, and overhaul support capabilities, which have bolstered the presence of South Korean-manufactured weapons systems within the Philippine armed forces.
