S. Korea Raises Travel Alert for Parts of Cambodia Over Employment Scam Concerns

Seoul: South Korea has raised the travel alert for certain regions in Cambodia due to increasing concerns over employment scams and cases of confinement, the foreign ministry announced on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a Level 2 alert, which advises travelers to exercise caution, has been issued for Phnom Penh, along with a special travel advisory for Sihanoukville Province, Bokor Mountain in Kampot Province, and Bavet City near the Vietnamese border. The special advisory corresponds to Level 2.5 on South Korea's four-level travel alert system. This advisory urges nationals to refrain from traveling to or to leave the designated areas, and it will remain in effect for 90 days, with possible extensions if the situation does not improve.

The ministry has advised South Korean nationals who are planning to visit the specified areas to either cancel or postpone their trips. For those currently in these regions, the ministry recommends relocating to safer locations to avoid potential risks associated with the scams.
