Gyeongju: South Korea has put the final touches on key facilities for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, with construction of the summit hall and media center set to be completed later this month, according to officials Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, key facilities such as the summit hall and the media center are now in the final stages of construction, with no issues anticipated in completing them by September, as stated by Kim Sang-cheol, a senior official at the city of Gyeongju. The city is set to host the upcoming APEC summit.
Renovation work for presidential-level accommodations has been finished for all facilities except one hotel. Officials from North Gyeongsang Province and Gyeongju City held a meeting to review the preparations, as the summit is just 44 days away.
At the Gyeongju Expo Grand Park, an exhibition called the "K-Business Square" is being organized to highlight the history of Korean industries and technologies from 26 local companies. An outdoor dome at the park will host exhibitions by prominent domestic and global corporations.
A series of cultural events are also planned, including a special exhibition on crowns from the Silla Dynasty, another on renowned artist Nam June Paik, and a fashion show featuring the Korean traditional dress "hanbok."
South Korea last hosted the APEC summit in 2005 in the southeastern port city of Busan.
