S. Korea Launches Task Force to Develop RE100 Industrial Complexes

Seoul: South Korea has initiated a task force to develop RE100 industrial complexes, which will rely entirely on renewable energy. The initiative aims to address regional energy disparities and promote the country’s energy transition, as announced by the industry ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the task force held its inaugural meeting to explore measures needed to establish RE100 industrial zones. Discussions focused on building renewable energy infrastructure, attracting corporate investment, and formulating incentive packages, including improved living conditions and electricity bill discounts.

RE100, an acronym for Renewable Energy 100 percent, is a global initiative encouraging companies to source all their electricity from renewable sources to achieve carbon neutrality.

The task force, which includes representatives from industry, finance, land, environment, and other relevant ministries, plans to draft special legislation within the year to support the establishment of these industrial zones.

“RE100 is becoming a key requirement for export-oriented companies. Rather than viewing it as a regulation, we must embrace it as an opportunity to drive balanced regional development and energy transition through renewable energy,” stated First Vice Industry Minister Moon Shin-hak.
