Diplomats from South Korea and the United States have engaged in discussions to ensure energy supply chain stability within the Group of 20 (G20) framework in light of global uncertainties, as reported by the foreign ministry on Friday. Kim Hee-sang, who serves as South Korea's government representative, or "sherpa," for the G20, met with his U.S. counterpart, Emory Cox, in Washington earlier this week. The discussions focused on fostering cooperation ahead of the G20 summit scheduled for December 14-15 in Miami.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the discussions emphasized the importance of collaborating at the G20 level to stabilize global energy supply chains. Both parties agreed that these supply networks are strained due to regional tensions. They also reviewed preparations for the upcoming G20 summit, considering key agenda items proposed by the U.S., such as trade, deregulation, and energy prosperity.
South Korea is set to host the G20 summit in 2028. During his visit, Kim also had separate meetings with Jarrod Agen, the executive director of the White House's National Energy Dominance Council, and other officials from the Trump administration and think tanks. Discussions in these meetings covered topics like energy security, artificial intelligence, and multilateral trade.
