Seoul: South Korea and Sweden's trade organizations hosted a joint forum on Thursday to bolster bilateral trade cooperation amidst increasing uncertainties in the global trade environment. The Sweden-Korea Strategic Industry Summit, held in Seoul, was co-hosted by the Korea International Trade Association and Business Sweden, bringing together business officials from both nations to discuss enhancing competitiveness in strategic industries and key technologies. According to Yonhap News Agency, Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo delivered an opening message underscoring the importance of cooperation in strategic industries. Cheong highlighted the example of supply chain ties in cutting-edge sectors between South Korea and the United States as a model for expanding ties with Sweden across various areas, including industries and energy. During the summit, South Korea and Sweden signed several memorandums of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation in digital technology, small modular reactors, electrofuels, and green energy. The agreements signify a commitment to strengthening partnerships in emerging technologies and sustainable energy solutions. The event was originally scheduled to include Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. However, his planned visit to South Korea was postponed following South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of martial law late Tuesday, which was subsequently lifted.
