Oslo: The defense chiefs of South Korea and Norway engaged in discussions in Oslo, focusing on strengthening security and arms industry cooperation, as reported by Seoul's defense ministry. Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back and his Norwegian counterpart, Tore O. Sandvik, reached an agreement to enhance collaboration in future warfare technologies, including artificial intelligence and unmanned systems. They also expressed the intent to identify specific areas for cooperation through regular dialogues.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Ahn requested Norway to consider South Korea's Chunmoo rocket artillery system for its long-range precision weapon systems acquisition project. He also commended Norway's recent decision to order additional K9 self-propelled howitzers from South Korea. In a move further cementing their defense relationship, South Korean defense company Hanwha Aerospace signed a contract in September to supply Norway with 24 more K9 howitzers.

Sandvik emphasized the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in the arms industry with South Korea. He highlighted the growing connection between the security landscapes of Asia and Europe amid rising global security uncertainties. Furthermore, he expressed the desire for expanded bilateral defense cooperation, pointing out Norway's strategic role in Arctic security.

Ahn, on his part, sought Norway's support for South Korea's policy on North Korea, aiming for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
