Brussels: South Korea and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have engaged in discussions to address shared security challenges amidst ongoing geopolitical uncertainties, as reported by the foreign ministry on Friday. The discussions were held during a regular policy dialogue in Brussels on Thursday, involving Youn Jong-kwon, ambassador for international cyber affairs, and Boris Ruge, NATO's assistant secretary general for political affairs and security policy.

According to Yonhap News Agency, both sides acknowledged the importance of cooperation among nations that share common values, particularly in light of the current geopolitical climate marked by the U.S.-China rivalry and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The intertwined security situations in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region were also highlighted as a reason for continued collaboration to tackle common security issues.

The discussions underscored the significant potential for an expanded partnership between South Korea and NATO, with a focus on areas such as cybersecurity, the defense industry, and space security. Both parties agreed to work towards achieving substantive progress in these areas.
