Bangkok: South Korea and five Mekong River nations convened in Thailand for a senior official-level meeting to discuss expanding cooperation in addressing transnational crimes and other areas, as reported by Seoul's foreign ministry. The meeting aimed to enhance collaboration between South Korea and the Mekong River countries, which include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Dong-ki, South Korea's director-general for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Southeast Asian Affairs, engaged with senior officials from the aforementioned nations to review the progress of existing cooperation projects. The discussions focused on strengthening ties in various sectors, including advanced technologies and economic security.
Lee expressed a strong desire to deepen collaboration with the Mekong River nations. Meanwhile, the five countries acknowledged South Korea's significant contributions to water resource management and agricultural development. They expressed optimism for continued partnership on various projects in the future.
