Seoul: South Korea will raise travel alerts for parts of Nigeria and Mozambique, while lowering warnings for South Africa and Botswana, the foreign ministry announced Friday. This adjustment is part of its regular half-yearly advisory review.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the travel alert for five northern states and a southern state in Nigeria will be elevated to Level 3. This level advises South Korean nationals in these areas to evacuate due to increasing incidents of kidnappings and attacks by armed groups. Currently, Nigeria is under a country-wide Level 2 warning that advises against travel.

A special travel advisory will be implemented for certain regions in Mozambique, urging citizens to cancel or postpone non-essential trips, attributed to the spread of attacks by Islamist terrorist groups. Meanwhile, Namibia will see a Level 1 alert, the lowest of the four-scale alert system, due to concerns over an unstable security situation and public health conditions.

The advisories for South Africa and Botswana will be adjusted downward. South Africa's special travel advisory will be reduced to Level 2, while Botswana's will be lowered to Level 1, reflecting improvements in their respective security situations.

Travel alerts for Bolivia's Cochabamba region and nine provinces in Turkey, excluding areas near Syria and Iraq, will also be decreased by one level to Level 2. Additionally, special travel advisories for Senegal, El Salvador, all of Tanzania, and parts of Russia, China, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will be extended for an additional 90 days.

These travel alert adjustments are scheduled to take effect starting at 1 p.m. on Friday.
