Cortina d'ampezzo: South Korea secured its second consecutive win in the mixed doubles curling tournament at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, defeating Estonia on Sunday. The South Korean team, featuring Kim Seon-yeong and Jeong Yeong-seok, emerged victorious against Estonia's Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill with a score of 9-3 at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium, located approximately 400 kilometers northeast of Milan.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean duo previously endured five consecutive losses in their round-robin matches before achieving their first win against the United States, with a close score of 6-5 on Saturday. Building on this momentum, Kim and Jeong took an early lead with a score of 3-0 after executing a well-placed double takeout by Kim in the first end.

The South Korean team extended their lead by adding two points in the second end, taking advantage of an unsuccessful draw by Kaldvee, which left two South Korean stones near the button. Estonia managed to score one point in the third end, but South Korea responded with two additional points in the fourth end, thanks to Kim's precise draw, bringing the score to 7-1.

Despite Estonia scoring again in the fifth end, South Korea maintained their dominance with another two-point gain in the sixth end, following Kim's clearing shot, which brought the score to 9-2. Although Estonia scored one more point in the seventh end, they conceded the match with one end remaining.

With this victory, South Korea's record improved to 2-5. However, the chances of advancing to the semifinals remain slim as they are unlikely to break into the top four of the 10-team competition. Later on Sunday, Kim and Jeong are set to face Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant of Canada. Notably, Brett Gallant is the son of former South Korean women's national team coach Peter Gallant, and Kim was part of the women's team during the 2022 Beijing Winter Games with Peter Gallant. South Korea is scheduled to conclude the round-robin phase on Monday against Norway.
