Russian Emergency Ministry Delegation Arrives in Pyongyang for Cooperation Talks

Pyongyang: A delegation from Russia's emergency ministry has arrived in Pyongyang for discussions on potential collaboration in science and technology.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation, headed by the Russian ministry's deputy head Roman Kurynin, was invited by North Korea's state emergency disaster committee.

The Russian ministry shared that during their visit, the delegation plans to explore disaster prevention and response sites in North Korea. They will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in science and technology, as well as in the training of firefighting and rescue professionals.

Tass reported that Kurynin expressed satisfaction with the interest shown by their Korean counterparts in joint efforts in science and technology. "The Russian Emergencies Ministry has accumulated serious expertise and we are ready to share it," Kurynin stated.

Last year, both Russian and North Korean agencies signed a memorandum of understanding focused on addressing natural disasters, which is set to remain effective through 2026. This visit marks the latest in a series of exchanges between the two nations, which have increased cooperation across several domains following their mutual defense treaty signed in June last year. This cooperation has included the deployment of North Korean troops to aid Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
