Renault Korea’s February Sales Drop 36.2 Percent Due to Weak Domestic Demand

Seoul: Renault Korea Motors Co., the South Korean affiliate of France's Renault S.A., reported a significant decline in its February sales, with a 36.2 percent drop from the previous year. The decrease is attributed primarily to weak domestic demand, which has impacted the company's overall performance.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the automaker's sales figures for February revealed a total of 3,893 vehicles sold, a decrease from 6,099 units sold in the same month last year. Domestic sales experienced a sharp decline of 59 percent, falling to 2,000 units from the previous year's 4,881 units. In contrast, exports showed a positive trend, increasing by 55.4 percent to 1,893 units from 1,218 units in the same period.

Renault Korea highlighted that domestic sales of key models like the Grand Koleos SUV and the Arcana SUV have decreased. However, the company managed to counterbalance some of the domestic demand challenges with increased shipments of the Polestar 4 electric SUV.

The company manufactures the Arcana compact SUV and the Grand Koleos SUV domestically and plans to introduce the new flagship Filante SUV to the domestic market this month. Additionally, Renault Korea produces the Polestar 4 for export to the United States at the request of Polestar Korea.

For the first two months of the year, from January to February, Renault Korea's total sales decreased by 23.1 percent to 7,625 vehicles, down from 9,916 units in the previous year. During this period, domestic sales fell by 43.3 percent to 4,239 units from 7,482 units, while exports rose by 39.1 percent to 3,386 units from 2,434 units.
