Seoul: Railway workers launched a "work-to-rule" protest Monday, causing delays in subway services in the capital area, railway officials said. The labor slowdown was initiated by the Korean Railway Workers' Union to advocate for higher pay and an increased workforce, with intentions to commence an indefinite general strike early next month. According to Yonhap News Agency, as of 8 a.m., train delays ranged between 5 and 20 minutes on capital area subway lines 1, 3, and 4, as well as the Suin-Bundang, Gyeongui-Central, and Seohae lines. Despite these disruptions, all regular trains and KTX high-speed trains were operating as scheduled. A representative from the Korea Railroad Corp. (KORAIL) mentioned that an emergency task force was established the previous day to ensure a swift response system and to minimize inconvenience for passengers. The official also stated that any infractions of company rules or legal violations by the striking workers would be dealt with severely.
