Pyongyang: Pyongyang's state media on Thursday briefly reported on a New Year's message by Chinese President Xi Jinping to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The report by the North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) did not provide details of Xi's message.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the KCNA listed Xi and his wife among a number of foreign leaders who have sent New Year's messages to Kim, including leaders from Vietnam, Myanmar, and Belarus. The messages are part of the traditional exchange of greetings between nations, although the specifics of Xi's communication remain undisclosed.

Last month, the KCNA reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a New Year's message to Kim, which it disclosed in detail. Putin's message, sent on December 18, was released by the KCNA last Thursday, quoting him as praising the North's "heroic" dispatch of troops in Russia's war against Ukraine. Unlike Xi's message, Putin's was reported with specific content, highlighting the differing levels of transparency in Pyongyang's reporting on international communications.
