Seoul: Pro- and anti-government protesters staged separate rallies in central Seoul, which concluded without any reported clashes.
According to Yonhap News Agency, right-wing activists and supporters, led by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church, gathered in Gwanghwamun. They called for the eradication of pro-North Korean forces and the reinstatement of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, with police estimating the crowd at about 3,000.
The organizers of the right-wing rally also announced plans to mobilize 20 million people for a large-scale demonstration on October 3. Meanwhile, progressive groups conducted a separate protest nearby, demanding the formation of a special tribunal concerning Yoon's martial law declaration last year and an investigation into Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae. The unofficial police estimate reported approximately 500 participants in this protest.
The ruling Democratic Party (DP) has called for the resignation of Chief Justice Cho, accusing him of delaying trials to protect individuals involved in the martial law imposition. The rallies led to traffic disruptions on major roads between Gwanghwamun and City Hall, as reported by officials.
