Ho chi minh city: A senior presidential aide and lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Party (DP) have arrived in Vietnam to lend support to former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan, who is currently in critical condition following a heart attack during a visit to Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho Jung-sik, the special adviser to the president for political affairs, made his way to a general hospital where Lee is receiving intensive treatment. This move came after President Lee Jae Myung ordered Cho's dispatch, following reports of the former prime minister's deteriorating health condition. Cho is expected to evaluate Lee's situation and provide updates to the president, potentially determining the need for further assistance.

Lee Hae-chan, who currently serves as the senior vice chairperson of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (PUAC), suffered a heart attack during an official trip to Ho Chi Minh City. After collapsing on Friday, he underwent a stent insertion procedure and remains in critical condition, relying on a mechanical device for breathing. His condition has shown slight signs of stabilization, though he remains unconscious, as reported by the PUAC.

In addition to Cho's presence, several lawmakers from the Democratic Party have also visited the hospital to show their support. "Lee has carried out great and significant things for the Republic of Korea's democratization, prosperity and people's life," remarked Rep. Kim Tae-nyeon, expressing hope for Lee's miraculous recovery.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese authorities, including the office of the prime minister, are reportedly coordinating closely with South Korean officials regarding Lee's hospitalization.
