Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung will engage in summit talks with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday to explore avenues for bolstering cooperation in trade, maritime security, the defense industry, and other fields, as announced by Cheong Wa Dae on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Mahama arrived in South Korea on Tuesday for a five-day working visit, marking the first time an African leader has visited the country since Lee assumed office in June 2025. This visit is also notable as it is the first by a Ghanaian president since the Korea-Africa Summit in May 2024.

During the summit, discussions between the two leaders will focus on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including trade and investment, maritime security, protection of nationals overseas, the defense industry, and climate change response, as stated by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung in a written briefing.

Ghana holds a reputation as one of Africa's leading democracies and is a pivotal trade and logistics hub in West Africa. It is home to the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which was launched in 2021.
