Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has planted trees at the presidential compound and his official residence to mark Arbor Day, his social media posting showed Sunday. Lee commemorated the occasion by planting cherry and peach trees at Cheong Wa Dae and the presidential residence, reflecting on the nation's journey and resilience.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee expressed his commitment through a Facebook post, stating, "Just as trees shoot out buds and flowers bloom in spring after a harsh winter, I will do my utmost as president to ensure that the spirit of hope spreads across this land once again." His words symbolize a pledge to foster hope and resilience within the nation, akin to the renewal seen in nature during spring.
The president also highlighted South Korea's journey from devastation to prosperity, acknowledging the efforts of its people. "Our mountains and fields, once devastated by war and poverty, were restored by the hands of our people," he noted. He emphasized that the Republic of Korea has shown formidable resilience, consistently overcoming adversity and nurturing hope, a sentiment he plans to carry forward during his presidency.
