The reason why elephants had to be brought back to Thailand was because Plaisak Surin was inappropriately cared for. Several years ago, Plaisak Surin was found locked in a cage inside a temple in a emaciated state. His body and feet were full of sores. Until the Sri Lankan government removed the elephants from the temple in November last year. and started treating Plaisak Surin's wounds While the authorities demanded that Sri Lanka send Plaisak Surin back. After the Thai ambassador in Sri Lanka visited Plaisak Surin while still at the temple last year. and found that Plaisak Surin was in very poor health
In 2001, the government sent 3 elephants to Sri Lanka. as a goodwill ambassador including Plaisak Surin At that time, he was still a baby elephant, less than 10 years old, to be used in the ceremony to bring the relics of the Lord Buddha.
