PPP Commences Registration for Presidential Primary

Seoul: The People Power Party (PPP) on Monday initiated a two-day registration period for candidates vying in the conservative party's primary to determine its nominee for the upcoming presidential election scheduled on June 3.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the primary is expected to feature several prominent figures, including former Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo, former PPP Chairman Han Dong-hoon, and PPP lawmakers Ahn Cheol-soo and Na Kyung-won, all of whom have officially declared their candidacy. Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo is also set to officially announce his candidacy, marking his third attempt at the presidency.

In contrast, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and former PPP lawmaker Yoo Seong-min declared over the weekend that they will not take part in the primary. The PPP's election committee will scrutinize the applications and plans to unveil the list of candidates who will advance to the first round of the primary on Wednesday. The party aims to finalize its candidate for the election by May 3.
