Seoul: Police on Thursday raided Coupang Corp.'s headquarters as part of an investigation into alleged wrongdoings by former Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Byung-kee. Investigators from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency searched Coupang's head and social contribution affairs offices, both located in southern Seoul, aiming to seize data concerning allegations that Kim requested personnel disadvantages for his former aide who had moved to the e-commerce giant.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim is suspected of asking former Coupang CEO Park Dae-jun to impose unfavorable personnel treatment on his former aide-turned-Coupang executive during a lunch meeting in September last year. This former aide, whose identity has not been disclosed, has revealed multiple allegations against Kim, including those related to his sons' university transfers and employment, which have sparked suspicions of Kim exploiting his National Assembly position for personal vendettas.

The former aide reportedly faced some form of personnel disadvantage, although Kim has denied any involvement in the matter. The police had already questioned Park as a witness on January 8 as part of their ongoing investigation.

Kim recently defected from the ruling party earlier this month following the emergence of various allegations involving him and his family.
