Seoul: Prime Minister nominee Han Seong-sook announced her commitment to prioritizing the improvement of people's livelihoods if confirmed as the country's second-in-command. Designated by President Lee Jae Myung as the successor to outgoing Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Han aims to build on her experience as Minister for SMEs and Startups to tackle pressing issues.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee Jae Myung selected Han, an information technology expert, due to her practical approach and ability to drive innovation. Han's career began in journalism before she transitioned to technology, playing a pivotal role in the success of South Korea's top internet platform, Naver. Her leadership at Naver earned her recognition as one of Fortune Magazine's 50 Most Powerful Women. At the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Han led initiatives supporting youth entrepreneurship and strengthening small business support.
If confirmed, Han will be the first female prime minister in the Lee Jae Myung administration and only the second in South Korea's history. Her appointment signals a commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to enhance the nation's economic landscape and improve citizens' quality of life.
