Beijing: The North Korean Embassy in Beijing has recently updated its outdoor bulletin board, adding new images of leader Kim Jong-un alongside his daughter. The embassy periodically changes the photographs on the board, which is located next to its main gate.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the latest update includes 25 new photographs, with a central portrait of Kim Jong-un surrounded by 12 images on each side. These images primarily depict his inspection trips from 2016 up to February of this year. Among the new photos are two from this year, featuring Kim on a visit to a livestock farm and at a construction completion ceremony with his daughter Ju-ae, both captured in February.
The appearance of Kim's daughter in the photographs has increased to six, up from three in March. However, as before, none of the captions mention her by name. The bulletin board has long been a medium for North Korea to project its desired image abroad, choosing to convey political messages on its own timeline rather than highlighting diplomatic events as they occur.
The recent photo update emphasizes Kim's domestic engagements, with his daughter frequently appearing alongside him. Ju-ae first appeared at the center of the board earlier this year but was replaced in February by images commemorating the birthday of Kim Jong-il, the late former leader and Kim Jong-un's father. Her photos returned in March, only to be replaced again in April by images of North Korea's founder, Kim Il-sung, in honor of his birthday.
In previous years, the bulletin board has also displayed diplomatic photographs. In July 2018, it featured images of Kim's summit meetings with then South Korean President Moon Jae-in, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Chinese President Xi Jinping to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Korean War armistice. Photos of Xi have also appeared on the board in early 2019 and again in 2020.
