Seoul: The number of video streaming service users in South Korea surpassed 20 million in June, as revealed by recent data.
According to Yonhap News Agency, industry tracker Wiseapp Retail reported that the monthly active users (MAUs) of major over-the-top (OTT) media service apps reached 20.9 million in June, marking an 8.1 percent increase from 19.3 million a year prior.
This figure first exceeded the 20 million threshold in January of the previous year and has consistently remained above this level, aside from a brief decrease in June 2024. Netflix maintained its dominant position in the South Korean market, boasting 13.9 million MAUs, which represents approximately 40 percent of the total user base. Coupang Play followed with 7.3 million users, while Tving recorded 5.7 million.
