Seoul: Police have referred more than 100 individuals to prosecutors for their alleged involvement in a Vietnam-based illegal gambling operation that handled 63 billion won (US$45.6 million) in bets, authorities announced Tuesday. The Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency revealed that they have sent 13 operators of the site, including a ringleader in his 30s, along with 105 members of the website, to the prosecution on charges related to gambling, although none have been detained physically.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the gambling network established its operations in Vietnam in April 2024. The platform offered illegal sports betting and various gambling services over a 10-month period. During this time, the website managed to attract a total of 3,553 members, among whom 105 were identified as heavy bettors and subsequently referred to the prosecution.
The police have indicated plans to continue their investigation into the operation, as another ringleader involved in the illegal activities is still at large.
