OpenAI chief strategy officer Jason Kwon said Monday he expected humans to keep control over artificial intelligence, playing down concerns over the unchecked development of the fast-growing technology. Kwon told an AI forum in Seoul that finding ways for humans to have control over AI is what is at the "heart of AI safety." "But in terms of the actual work in figuring out how these systems behave and how to control them, the thing that we find actually is that as they become more capable, they become in a lot of ways more controllable too," Kwon said. Kwon said OpenAI is working to create a framework where different countries can figure out how the systems can reflect their cultural values. "One of the things we always think about is how do we, as a model developer, come into each country in terms of making our tools available and make that place feel like that model is for them," he said. On skeptical views that the AI bubble will burst, Kwon said he is optimistic about the future and believes the tec hnology will follow a similar path to the internet, which is now an essential tool for humanity. "We are still very early. ... We have about 50 million plus people in South Korea, and on ChatGPT itself, we have only 1 million daily active users," he said.
