Seoul: Oceans Minister Chun Jae-soo is set to embark on a visit to Denmark and Britain this week with the aim of bolstering cooperative ties in the shipping sector with Copenhagen, as well as participating in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) general assembly, as reported by his office on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Minister Chun's itinerary includes a visit to Denmark on Wednesday, where he will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Danish Industry Minister Morten Bodskov. The MOU is intended to facilitate cooperation between Seoul and Copenhagen in the realms of green and digital transformations within the shipping industry.

During his stay in Denmark, Minister Chun is also expected to engage in discussions with top executives from the global shipping giant Maersk and officials from Denmark's maritime administration. These discussions will focus on the development of potential Arctic shipping routes.

Following his engagements in Denmark, Chun will proceed to London to attend the IMO general assembly. While there, he plans to meet with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez and Singaporean Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow. These meetings aim to seek support for South Korea's bid to host the United Nations Ocean Conference in 2028.

In a press release, Minister Chun emphasized the significance of advancing cooperation with the international community to ensure the successful development of Arctic shipping routes, highlighting it as one of South Korea's top national priorities.
