Seoul: Celltrion Inc., South Korea's biopharmaceutical leader, announced the launch of its new biosimilar drug, Omlyclo, in major European markets. This follows the drug's initial introduction in Norway in September.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Omlyclo received sales approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in May of the previous year. It is recognized as the first biosimilar for treating chronic spontaneous urticaria, referencing the original medication, Xolair. The product is now available in significant European nations, including Germany, Spain, Britain, France, and the Netherlands.

"We plan to expand the new biosimilar's availability to additional European countries, leveraging our brand recognition and direct local sales networks," a Celltrion official mentioned in a press release. The company's growth strategy focuses on enhancing its presence across Europe through established brand loyalty and strong regional sales connections.

Celltrion has been swiftly growing its global biosimilar portfolio, elevating the count of approved products from six to eleven. The company's long-term goal is to commercialize 18 biosimilars by 2030 and expand to 41 by 2038. Additionally, Celltrion's original drug, Zymfentra, is available in the United States for autoimmune diseases, while it is marketed under the name Remsima SC in Europe and other regions.
