Nvidia and SK Group Leaders Discuss AI Memory Chip Cooperation in Taipei

Taipei: Jensen Huang, CEO of U.S. chip company Nvidia Corp., met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won in Taipei to discuss future cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) memory, as reported by SK Group.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting occurred on Monday in Taipei during Computex, a major technology trade show in Asia. The meeting marked a significant moment as SK hynix reached a market capitalization of US$1 trillion. Both companies used the occasion to reflect on their achievements in AI memory and reaffirm their commitment to enhancing AI infrastructure.

Huang also visited SK hynix's booth to review key memory products such as next-generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced module solutions. During the visit, Huang left handwritten notes on display wafers, encouraging further production of these technologies.

SK hynix is a supplier of HBM4 and other high-performance and low-power memory products to Nvidia. Nvidia has recently commenced mass production of its next-generation AI computing platform, Vera Rubin, which features HBM4.

The partnership between Nvidia and SK hynix was highlighted at the show with an "AI Factory Zone," showcasing their products side by side. This emphasizes their strong collaboration in AI technology. Huang has also hinted at potential investment in South Korea's robotics sector, and his upcoming visit to Seoul is anticipated to include meetings with major South Korean conglomerate leaders.

Huang's itinerary in Seoul includes meetings with prominent figures such as Chey, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, and Lee Hae-jin of Naver. Industry sources have also mentioned a closed-door meeting with local robotics and AI startups in Seoul, indicating discussions may encompass broader AI applications beyond semiconductors.

Huang's previous visit to Seoul garnered attention when he dined with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung. His current visit is generating interest online, with an individual tracking his movements and related news reports.

Industry observers speculate that the discussions could extend to include robotics and physical AI, which integrates AI with real-world systems.
