North Korea Holds Modest Celebration for Party Anniversary

Pyongyang:North Korea has marked the 81st founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea with a celebration performance attended by leader Kim Jong-un, as reported by state media on Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the event took place at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, featuring patriotic songs, acrobatics, and dance performances that emphasized loyalty to the party and Kim. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) described Kim as "representing the dignity and mightiness" of North Korea. He waved to the audience as a gesture of congratulations and expressed satisfaction with the performance.

Kim was accompanied by his wife, Ri Sol-ju, and daughter, Kim Ju-ae, as shown in a photo released by KCNA. The audience included diplomatic envoys, foreign mission members, senior party and military officials, and Pyongyang citizens. Notably, Kim did not release a statement for the anniversary.

The performance was the culmination of a series of modest events marking the anniversary. North Korea typically reserves large-scale celebrations for anniversaries ending in zero or five, such as last year's massive military parade unveiling the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile.

In a separate report, KCNA mentioned that party officials visited the Party Founding Museum and were briefed on Kim's October 2025 visit to the museum. The report highlighted Kim's role in bringing about a "great heyday" for the party and working towards comprehensive national rejuvenation.
