North Korea Deepens Military Ties with Russia Amid Ongoing Ukraine Conflict

Wonsan: In a recent meeting in Wonsan, North Korea, Kim Jong Un welcomed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who conveyed greetings from President Putin and reaffirmed Russia's commitment to bilateral agreements. The meeting underscores the strengthening ties between Russia and North Korea since the onset of the war in Ukraine.

According to Deutsche Welle, intelligence reports indicate that North Korea has been a significant supplier of military resources to Russia, providing up to 12 million artillery shells. This substantial contribution is believed to account for approximately half of Russia's shell usage in its ongoing military operations in Ukraine. Analysts suggest that the discussions between Kim Jong Un and Sergey Lavrov likely centered on the continued supply of military equipment, particularly ammunition and missiles, which North Korea produces in large quantities.

Further reports suggest that North Korean troops may be directly supporting Russia in Ukraine, with estimates of up to 30,000 soldiers potentially being deployed. While there are concerns regarding the combat readiness of North Korea's regular troops, its special forces are reputed to be well-trained and capable of effective military engagement. The collaboration between the two nations raises critical questions about the dynamics of international alliances and the implications for the conflict in Ukraine.
