Pyongyang: North Korea announced that it has achieved success in implementing major policies over the past five years during a key party congress, which is expected to unveil the country's future policy direction.

According to Yonhap News Agency, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attended a policy review session on Friday, marking the second day of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea's ninth party congress, the country's most significant political event since 2021. The congress commenced on Thursday, setting the stage for outlining major policy directions for the next five years in areas such as diplomacy, defense, and the economy.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Korea has carried out key policy plans "in all fields" over the past five years, describing it as a period of transformation. The agency emphasized that the successes, experiences, and lessons gained in politics, economy, culture, defense, and diplomacy serve as a springboard for future progress.

While North Korea did not disclose details regarding its policy toward South Korea and the United States, policymakers in Seoul and Washington are closely monitoring the congress. Both South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump have shown interest in resuming diplomacy with Pyongyang.

During a speech on the first day of the congress, Kim highlighted economic achievements from the past five years and emphasized North Korea's status as consolidated and "irreversible." Kim also declared inter-Korean ties as hostile, stating no intention to seek reconciliation or unification with South Korea, and noted the North's lack of response to dialogue initiatives from Lee and Trump.
