Pyongyang: North Korea condemned the United States and other Western countries Monday, accusing them of fueling concerns over the revival of Nazism, on the anniversary of Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union.
According to Yonhap News Agency, North Korea's Korean Central News Agency published an article asserting that "modern-day Nazi forces" have reemerged, causing global concern over what the article described as a significant challenge to humanity's future. The report emphasized that the threat of neo-Nazism is being accentuated through the ongoing situation in Ukraine, which the North Korean government claims is intertwined with the U.S. and Western support for Ukraine on the international stage.
North Korea further pledged to "firmly thwart the imperialists' attempts to revive Nazism" as part of its commitment to "safeguard sovereignty, security and international justice." These remarks appear to be a justification for Russia's actions in Ukraine, while simultaneously demonstrating solidarity between Pyongyang and Moscow.
The historical context of Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, was also highlighted. The invasion led to the death of an estimated 27 million Soviet soldiers and civilians during World War II, and this date is commemorated as a national memorial day in Russia.
