Seoul: The presidential National Security Office held an emergency meeting Thursday after North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea. Yin Sung-hwan, the second deputy director of the National Security Office, presided over the meeting with the military and other related agencies to discuss the North's missile launch and response measures, the presidential office said.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Joint Chiefs of Staff reported detecting the launch, which involved various types of short-range ballistic missiles, from North Korea's eastern coastal city of Wonsan between 8:10 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. This recent missile activity came approximately two months after North Korea conducted a similar launch of presumed close-range ballistic missiles on March 10, coinciding with joint springtime military drills by South Korea and the United States.
Thursday's launch was North Korea's second ballistic missile test since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January. The National Security Office meeting aimed to evaluate the situation and formulate appropriate response measures to address the escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
