Seoul: National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac met with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on Thursday to discuss the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and share views on the ongoing Middle East conflict.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Balakrishnan is visiting Seoul after trips to China and North Korea, where he met with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui. During their meeting, Wi and Balakrishnan exchanged views on the peninsula's security situation, with the Singaporean official sharing insights from his recent visit to North Korea.
The presidential office reported that the security adviser expressed hope that the strategic partnership between South Korea and Singapore will strengthen through high-level exchanges. He also hoped that Singapore will continue to play a constructive role in fostering peace on the Korean Peninsula, recalling its significance as the venue for the 2018 summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Both officials voiced support for diplomatic efforts to resolve the Middle East conflict and emphasized the importance of normalizing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as noted by Cheong Wa Dae.
