N. Korea’s Top Diplomat Meets Chinese Counterpart in Beijing

Beijing: North Korea's Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui met her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on Sunday in Beijing, a Chinese media outlet said. The meeting marks a significant moment in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the report by the China Global Television Network followed an earlier announcement by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that Choe left Pyongyang for China "by plane for her personal use" on Saturday. The visit, set to last from Saturday to Tuesday, was at the invitation of the Chinese foreign minister.

Choe's departure was marked by a formal send-off, with ministry officials and Chinese Ambassador Wang Yajun present, as noted in the KCNA report. This visit occurs as North Korea gears up for a major military parade scheduled for October 10, celebrating the 80th founding anniversary of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea. The event is expected to see invitations extended to state leaders.

The trip is part of a continuing series of high-level interactions between the two nations, following North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's attendance at China's military parade in Beijing on September 3. Kim's visit also included discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with Choe accompanying Kim during this engagement.
