Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has emphasized the need for "extraordinary responsibility and high prudence" in executing major state projects during a significant party meeting, as reported by state media on Wednesday. The remarks were made while Kim presided over the fourth enlarged meeting of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea's (WPK) political bureau the day before.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting did not address U.S. President Donald Trump's recent attempts to reengage with Kim. Trump had expressed a desire to reconnect with the North Korean leader this year. The politburo meeting was convened to assess the progress of the 2026 policy tasks, which were adopted earlier this year at the WPK's ninth congress, as stated by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim highlighted "a series of deviations" attributed to the "immature operation and leadership of the economic guidance organs," which failed to align with the nation's greater ideals and progress, according to the KCNA. The report did not elaborate on what these "deviations" entailed. Kim expressed confidence that these shortcomings can be addressed through renewed determination and effort.

He further emphasized that the goals set by the WPK central committee are not just numerical targets but represent "important political tasks for preserving the dignity of the country and proving the superiority of the social system." The KCNA reported that Kim urged officials to ensure the successful completion of this year's policy goals, suggesting that these achievements would lay the foundation for the country's "long-term goals" and improve "the people's wellbeing."

North Korean state media have not commented on Trump's ongoing interest in reengaging with Kim. On Tuesday, Trump reiterated a previous message about his directive to reduce combined military exercises with South Korea and shared photos of himself with the North Korean leader earlier in the week.
