Pyongyang: North Korea has convened a workshop with chief secretaries from the ruling party's city and county committees to emphasize the implementation of leader Kim Jong-un's regional development policy, as reported by state media on Tuesday. The event marks the third workshop of its kind, held from Saturday through Monday, and aims to reaffirm the commitment of officials to their responsibilities in regional transformation.
According to Yonhap News Agency, participants expressed their commitment to fulfilling their roles in achieving the historic task of regional transformation. This workshop follows North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's call for more aggressive efforts to implement the country's key regional development policy, which he articulated at a significant party congress in late February.
In 2024, Kim announced a plan to construct modern factories in 20 cities and counties annually over a decade to enhance living conditions in regional areas. This policy is part of broader efforts to address economic challenges and improve the standard of living for North Korean citizens.
Additionally, North Korea's state media has confirmed that party secretary Kim Jae-ryong will also serve as the director of the Workers' Party of Korea's Organizational Leadership Department. His appointment, first mentioned during a reshuffle at the party congress, has fueled speculation regarding his influential roles within the party's hierarchy.
