Ulsan: The location of a worker who went missing following a fire aboard a Navy submarine undergoing maintenance at an Ulsan shipyard has been identified, officials reported Thursday. Efforts are currently underway to rescue the woman, whose condition remains unclear.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the fire broke out at 1:58 p.m. on the ROKS Hong Beom-do inside the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. shipyard, which is situated approximately 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The incident prompted the evacuation of around 40 individuals, and authorities had been searching for one unaccounted worker.
Fire crews managed to bring the blaze fully under control within two hours, deploying approximately 30 pieces of equipment in the process. The missing worker, an employee in her 60s from a contractor, was located inside the submarine. However, rescuers are facing challenges in reaching her due to the vessel's narrow entry path.
The ROKS Hong Beom-do was docked at the shipyard for hull and equipment maintenance when the fire occurred.
