Marine Corps to Launch First High-Speed Combat Boat

Seoul: The Marine Corps is preparing to hold a ceremony on Thursday to introduce its inaugural high-speed combat boat, a strategic enhancement aimed at improving maneuverability and survivability during deployments. The new vessel represents a significant upgrade for the Marine Corps, promising improved performance in operations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the 18-meter-long combat boat is equipped with a remote-controlled weapon station and is designed to operate more efficiently in shallow waters while offering partial bulletproof protection, distinguishing it from the current rigid inflatable boats. The boat has been named the Marlin, inspired by the ocean fish renowned for its speed and spear-like upper jaw, reflecting the vessel's intended role and capabilities.

The Marlin is scheduled for delivery to the Marine Corps in December of the following year, with deployment set to follow the completion of operational procedures. This new addition is expected to significantly enhance the Marine Corps' tactical options and overall mission effectiveness.
