Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Armed Robbery at Actress Nana’s Home

Namyangju: A court on Tuesday sentenced a man to a seven-year prison term for breaking into the home of famous singer-turned-actress Nana last year, and threatening her and her mother with a weapon while demanding money. The Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court handed down the sentence to the 34-year-old after convicting him of robbery resulting in injury over the break-in in Guri, east of Seoul, in November.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the court emphasized the gravity of the crime, stating, "Given the severity of an armed break-in at nighttime when peace should be preserved, a corresponding punishment is necessary." The court noted that the victims continue to suffer from mental and physical distress and are seeking justice.

The defendant argued in his defense that he was unarmed during the incident and had no intention to engage in robbery, merely theft. However, the court dismissed these claims, referencing the consistent testimonies of the victims and evidence found in the defendant's phone search history concerning penalties for armed robbery.

In a separate matter, the man had previously lodged a complaint against Nana, accusing her of attempted murder, which the police had dismissed. The court determined that any harm inflicted on the defendant by Nana was in self-defense, as reports indicated he had strangled both Nana and her mother during the confrontation.

Initially, the prosecution had sought a 10-year prison sentence for the defendant, underscoring the seriousness of the charges.
