Lions Aim to End Season-Worst 7-Game Losing Streak in KBO

Seoul: The Samsung Lions, who began last week at the top of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) standings, have seen a drastic shift in their fortunes after losing all six games of the week. This losing streak has caused them to fall to fourth place as the new week begins.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Lions' current losing run extends to seven games, as they also lost on April 18. Despite this downturn, the team still maintains a record above .500, standing at 12-11-1. However, they are now 2.5 games away from third place and only a half-game ahead of fifth place. The Lions have an opportunity to reverse their fortunes with upcoming series against two teams with losing records. They will face the Doosan Bears (10-14-1) in Seoul from Tuesday to Thursday, followed by a home series against the Hanwha Eagles (10-14-0) in Daegu from Friday to Sunday.

The Lions' offensive struggles were evident last week, as they managed just 14 runs over six games-the lowest in the league during that period. They aim to improve their performance against the Bears, who are currently without their All-Star closer Kim Taek-yeon due to a shoulder strain.

In other KBO news, the LG Twins will also be without their star closer You Young-chan, who sustained an elbow injury during Friday's game. The severity of You's injury remains unclear, but he is expected to miss significant playing time. The Twins recently won two out of three games against the Bears, improving their record to 16-8-0, just half a game behind the KT Wiz (17-8-0) for second place. The Twins and the Wiz are set to clash in a three-game series in Suwon, marking their first meeting since the Wiz swept the season-opening series in late March.

Elsewhere in the league, the Heroes (10-15-0) and the Lotte Giants (7-16-1), the two teams at the bottom of the standings, will compete in Busan. The Heroes are striving to avoid finishing last for the fourth consecutive season, while the Giants are looking to rise from their lowest finish since 2019.

Starting on Friday, the NC Dinos (11-13-0) will visit the Twins, the Kia Tigers (12-12-1) will host the Wiz in Gwangju, and the Bears will face the Heroes in a matchup of two Seoul-based teams.
