Seoul: LG Electronics Inc. has announced its plan to invest approximately 100 billion won (US$70 million) in a stock buyback initiative aimed at enhancing shareholder value. The company disclosed that the buyback will involve 905,083 common shares and 189,371 preferred shares, with the program running from Monday through September 30.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this marks the first time LG Electronics has launched a share buyback program specifically targeting an increase in shareholder value. Previous buyback initiatives were intended to distribute shares as bonuses to employees. This strategic move follows LG Electronics' commitment made in November last year to roll out a shareholder return program worth 200 billion won from 2026 to 2027.
In a related effort to enhance shareholder value, LG Electronics retired treasury shares worth 60.2 billion won in July 2025. Additionally, the company reported that it had distributed 243.9 billion won in dividends for 2025, equating to 1,350 won per common share and 1,400 won per preferred share.
