Seoul: LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo on Wednesday emphasized the significance of developing "human-oriented" artificial intelligence (AI) technology, asserting that the conglomerate is committed to nurturing AI experts through its newly established graduate school program.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Koo expressed these views in a letter addressed to the new students of the LG Graduate School of AI. This institution, set up by the group and sanctioned by the education ministry, offers advanced degrees, including master's and doctoral programs, in the field of AI. Koo highlighted that technology should serve as a means to enhance human happiness, rather than being a goal in itself, stressing its human-oriented nature.

Koo further stated, "We intend to become a reliable supporter so that students can fully explore their imagination without fear of failure, enabling the technologies developed here to be implemented in the real world." The letter underscores LG's commitment to facilitating an environment where students can innovate freely and contribute to practical technological advancements.

The inaugural class at the graduate school comprises 11 master's candidates and six doctoral candidates from various LG affiliates. These students will engage in research across multiple industry sectors, focusing particularly on developing AI foundation models. This initiative aims to enhance South Korea's AI competitiveness and broaden the AI ecosystem.
