Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's planned luncheon with key political leaders on Thursday was abruptly canceled following the unexpected decision by Jang Dong-hyeok, the leader of the main opposition People Power Party (PPP), to boycott the event. This development was confirmed by Cheong Wa Dae.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee had arranged to meet with Jung Chung-rae, leader of the ruling Democratic Party (DP), alongside PPP leader Jang Dong-hyeok at Cheong Wa Dae. The agenda included discussions on economic strategies and other pressing national issues. However, the meeting was called off, as disclosed by Hong Ik-pyo, the presidential secretary for political affairs.

"The meeting was arranged to facilitate communication and cooperation on pending state affairs," Hong commented, expressing regret over the missed opportunity for dialogue. Despite the setback, the Lee administration remains committed to fostering "mutual respect and responsible dialogue" with political parties to ensure cooperation on significant matters.

In light of the cancellation, President Lee improvised by having an informal lunch with senior presidential staff and journalists at a renowned "samgyetang" restaurant nearby. The presidential spokesperson, Kang Yu-jung, reported that during the meal, Lee fielded questions about his social media presence and real estate policies.

The lunch also provided an opportunity for Lee to engage with other restaurant patrons and tourists. Following the meal, he took a walk around the historic Gyeongbok Palace, a notable site from the Joseon Dynasty, accompanied by his lunch companions.
