Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's chief of staff is scheduled to visit Incheon International Airport to welcome hundreds of South Korean workers returning home following their release from detention in a U.S. immigration raid, as announced by the presidential office.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik will be at the airport to greet the workers arriving on a chartered flight. The plane, carrying 316 South Korean nationals and 14 foreigners, is expected to land at 3:11 p.m. Among the passengers are 10 Chinese, three Japanese, and one Indonesian individual.

The workers were detained during a recent raid by U.S. immigration authorities at an electric battery factory construction site in Georgia. The site is operated by Hyundai Motor and LG Energy Solution. The detained individuals were flown out of Atlanta earlier in the day.

Before heading to the airport, Kang is set to attend the funeral of a Coast Guard officer who lost his life while rescuing a man off the country's west coast. Kang will deliver President Lee Jae Myung's condolence message to the bereaved family on behalf of the president.
